The NBA has been looking for alternate ways to adapt to the recent outbreak of the coronavirus, mulling suspending or moving some games to NBA cities that have yet to suffer outbreaks, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

If the virus clusters in a city and forces a team out of its arena for a stretch of time, the league has discussed potentially moving games to the away opponent’s arena if that city hasn’t suffered an outbreak. The other option would be to move games to neutral cities and sites.

The NBA has discussed multiple possibilities,  including playing games without fans in the stands and, more drastically, suspending games for a period of time. The latter two options are complicated, considering there has been a limited amount of public testing for the coronavirus in the United States.

There has yet to be a full understanding of how the virus has spread throughout the country.

The NBA Board of Governors is slated to hold a conference call on Wednesday to address these issues, each team with a designated ownership representative. There will be two more conference calls on Thursday for team presidents and general managers.

Teams have been hesitant to eliminate fans from their games. Teams like the Golden State Warriors gross between $3.6 million and $3.8 million per game in ticket sales alone, making closed-door games a major financial loss for the franchise.

The NBA has already eliminated media from locker rooms as a temporary measure in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.
