Former NBA player Metta World Peace recently claimed in a Tweet that he did not make Team USA due to his reputation:

We are not sure, however, whether he's talking about teams in the past … or if he actually tried to get on this year's squad.

We're just going to assume Metta World Peace is referring to when he was in his prime, because one thing is for sure: this isn't his time anymore. This year's Team USA squad competing in the upcoming FIBA World Cup may be depleted thanks to all the withdrawals, but there is still no way World Peace would even have a shot on this team.

Even Carmelo Anthony, the national team's most decorated player, can't even sniff a spot on this year's watered-down squad.

On the flip side, World Peace, then known as Ron Artest, could have easily made Team USA in his heyday back in the mid-2000s. However, as he mentioned, he had quite a sour image around the league, especially following the infamous Malice at the Palace incident in late 2004.

Whatever World Peace means by his recent tweet, it appears like the current player development coach for the South Bay Lakers is still supportive of this year's Team USA squad.

Surely, this team that will represent USA Basketball in the FIBA World Cup later this month isn't as decorated or even as talented as that of years past due to the high number of dropouts. Nevertheless, these are still some of the best players in the world. Add the fact that they are coached by one of the most legendary mentors in NBA history, Gregg Popovich, and Team USA is still the favorite to win the tournament.
