The Utah Jazz recently secured the services of All-Star center Rudy Gobert for a lucrative five-year, $205 million extension which sets the record for the biggest contract made for a big man, per ESPN‘s Tim MacMahon. The breaking news ultimately didn't bode well with fans who immediately took their disappointment to Twitter.

A netizen recently voiced out his concern that the Frenchman's deal was the ‘biggest overpay of all time'.

Another fan compared Gobert's extension to the contract of Philadelphia 76ers swingman Tobias Harris who previously inked a five-year, $180 million deal prior to the 2019-2020 season.

The negative reactions continued as a fan claimed that re-signing the big man was a ‘waste of money' for the Jazz organization and suggested that they could've used the paycheck to acquire other assets instead.

Finally, another social media user took a shot at Gobert's subpar offensive game and tagged him as a player that ‘just clogs the paint up'.

Rudy Gobert has been a mainstay on the Jazz since he first came to the team back in 2013. Since then, he managed to snag an All-NBA Second Team selection back in 2017 and two consecutive NBA Defensive Player of the Year awards from 2018 to 2019.

Last season, the 7-footer averaged norms of 15.1 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks in 68 games en route to earning his first All-Star selection. The Jazz squad bannered by Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell were fresh off a disappointing Game 7 loss against the Denver Nuggets in the opening round of the 2020 NBA Playoffs.

He previously drew ire from the public when he joked about COVID-19 in a post-game press conference midway through last season. His carelessness eventually forced the league to postpone the regular season after he tested positive for the virus.

Hopefully, Rudy Gobert will get to prove the naysayers wrong and ultimately show the Jazz organization that he is indeed worthy of signing the lucrative paycheck.
