The Sacrament Kings and Dallas Mavericks will play in a Western Conference matchup on Sunday. It's time to continue our NBA odds series and make a Kings-Mavericks prediction and pick.

The Kings and Mavericks have each gotten off to solid starts to the 2021-22 NBA season, as both teams sit with a 3-2 record through five games played. Luka Doncic continues to lead the Mavericks under new head coach Jason Kidd, while the Kings have been led by Harrison Barnes and De'Aaron Fox. This should be an interesting contrast in styles as the Kings love to push the tempo, while Doncic and the Mavericks like to slow the pace and use their size and skill to torture opposing defenses.

Here's how the bookmakers have set the Kings-Mavericks odds for this Sunday matchup.

NBA Odds: Kings-Mavericks Odds

Sacramento Kings +5 (-110), +162 ML

Dallas Mavericks -5 (-110), -194 ML

Over 218 points (-110)

Under 218 points (-110)

Why The Kings Can Cover The Spread

Harrison Barnes is averaging 25 points and 10 rebounds on 52% shooting through five games. These would all easily be career highs, and while they may not be sustainable, he's playing really well right now. Sunday will mark a ‘revenge' game of sorts as Barnes is a former Maverick. The Kings come in on a two-game winning streak, and are 3-0 on the road this season. Sacramento can score the ball, and their defense seems to be improved though it is still too early to tell for sure. The Kings could be in a good spot to catch the Mavericks slipping, as Dallas big man Kristaps Porzingis (lower back) is questionable. If Porzingis is unable to go, that likely effects the odds a little bit. The Kings are risky play here, but it may be worth it.

Why The Mavericks Can Cover The Spread

Doncic is only shooting 41% from the floor this season as he navigates a new offense under Kidd. After a brutal 31-point road loss vs. the Denver Nuggets on Friday, Dallas will look to get back on the right track Sunday at home. The status of Porzingis is something to monitor, as you likely won't want to lay points with the Mavericks if they are without one of their top scorers. The Kings are playing well right now, and it may not be the time to lay points with a short-handed Dallas group. If Porzingis is able to go on Sunday, laying the points becomes more palatable but still isn't exciting.

Final Kings-Mavericks Prediction & Pick

Take the Kings and the points, as the Mavericks have been erratic under Jason Kidd offensively so far this season. While Dallas may be the more talented group overall, they haven't look great so far in the young season, so it's a bit extra to five points on them vs. a hot Kings team.
