The Lakers enter play on Monday following a 56-point resurgence from LeBron James as he carried the team to a win over the Golden State Warriors. The team will look to carry the momentum from that win into San Antonio for their matchup with the Spurs. James was unstoppable against the Warriors, picking up the load left by Anthony Davis' absence. He knocked down 19-of-31 field goal attempts, alongside 6 3-pointers en route to the win, snapping a painstaking four-game losing streak for the Lakers and improving to 28-35 on the season.

The Spurs are coming off of a tough loss to the Charlotte Hornets and find themselves mired in their own four-game losing streak. Currently in 12th place in the Western Conference at 24-40, the Spurs will lean heavily upon All-Star point guard Dejounte Murray to lead them to victory against a Lakers team that struggles against point guards. However, Murray is currently dealing with a calf injury and is considered questionable to play, which would be a huge blow for San Antonio. Keldon Johnson led all scorers with 33 points in the loss to Charlotte, and he figures to play a big role in Monday's showdown, particularly if Murray is unavailable.

So, without further ado, let's dive into our pick for the Lakers-Spurs clash.

Why The Lakers Could Cover The Spread

It's virtually impossible to count LeBron James out, and his performance against the Warriors was a stern reminder of that. The King's 56-point performance was exactly what the Lakers needed, and if he gets hot again on Monday, there's no reason to believe the Lakers can't fend off the Spurs. It's do-or-die time for the underachieving Lakers, and the four-game skid after the All-Star break could potentially have served as the wake-up call the team needed heading into the final stretch of the regular season. If LeBron turns it on again on Monday night, the Lakers should keep this game close, especially if Murray is unable to suit up.

Why The Spurs Could Cover The Spread

The Spurs are favored against the Lakers and will aim to use their high-octane offense in order to propel themselves to victory. Dejounte Murray's status will be towards the outcome of this game, but if he's able to play, he should be in line for a huge night against an LA team that hasn't managed to maintain opposing point guards. Murray is a triple-double threat every single night, and the Lakers have surrendered among the most triple-doubles in the league. Whether he's attacking the basket or facilitating for his sharpshooting teammates, if Murray plays at his highest level, the Spurs should have no problem scoring.

Final Lakers-Spurs Prediction & Pick

I'm taking the Lakers to cover the spread at home. With Murray's status still up in the air, rolling with the Spurs feels like a significant risk. Even if he can play, there's no telling how much he'll be impacted by his calf injury. LeBron James is coming off his best scoring performance of the season, and he will look to carry that momentum over into another big game on Monday night. If he's up to the task, the Lakers should be able to cover the spread at +2.5.

Final Lakers-Spurs Pick: Lakers +2.5 (-110)
