Since being traded to the Brooklyn Nets, every Ben Simmons injury update has been negative. The former Philadelphia 76ers star has been out due to a herniated disc, pushing his debut with the Nets back further and further. As they gear up for the postseason, it's looking like their newest star will not be able to contribute.

Fortunately, the Nets got a little nugget of good news regarding their young star's rehab. Head coach Steve Nash told reporters that he is starting to do more as he works to get back on the court. Simmons got some shots up ahead of the Nets' regular-season finale against the Indiana Pacers

The catch with Simmons' workout is that the Nets still do not know when he will be available to play. This ultimately means that, unless Brooklyn makes a very deep playoff run, Simmons will have to wait until next season to suit up for them. Although this has been the team's mindset for a while, it is still unfortunate for them that a Ben Simmons injury update has usually meant bad news and the first good one is too little, too late.

The Nets will, barring a huge change, have to accept that Simmons will not be suiting up this season. It is surely a disappointing first season for the three-time All-Star but he has his prime years ahead of him and should thrive next to Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irvin once he gets the chance. Simmons' defense and playmaking should make him a great fit.
