Joe Harris of the Brooklyn Nets believes that head coach Kenny Atkinson saw tidbits of vaunted NBA shooter Kyle Korver in him.

Per Anthony Puccio of SB Nation, Joe Harris recalled his journey to the NBA. Harris, the 33rd overall pick in 2014, believes that he was lucky when he joined the Nets in 2016 — the same year the team hired Atkinson as head coach.

Kenny Atkinson saw that Harris has some similarities with Kyle Korver, whom Atkinson worked with in Atlanta with the Hawks.

“I was lucky with Brooklyn, they were in this kind of weird situation where they didn’t have any draft picks. So, they had to figure out ways to stockpile young talent and at that time I was only 23-years-old. I hadn’t really solidified anything in the NBA, but I did have a specific niche in terms of shooting. Kenny Atkinson had come from Atlanta, one of the plug-in guys that he thought would be good with the good teams in Atlanta, and my comparison was [Kyle] Korver. He kind of saw a little bit of me in Kyle and played that card. That was my break.”

Prior to joining the Nets, Harris was with the Cleveland Cavaliers for two seasons. He played limited games and minutes and made less than one 3-pointer per game. However, once he joined the Nets under Atkinson's lead, his 3-pointers per game went up. Last season, he hit 2.4 3-pointers per game, an improvement from 1.9 in the 2017-2018 season and 1.6 in the season prior.
