Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving was just fined $50,000 for flipping off Celtics fans and yelling profanity during and after Game 1 on Sunday. The Boston faithful have absolutely hated him since he jetted for the Big Apple, letting Irving hear it every time he returns to the TD Garden.

Kevin Durant meanwhile was asked about the matter and why the Celtics fans still boo his running mate to this day. In KD's eyes, it all comes from love.

Via Jared Weiss:

“It’s rooted in love. They once loved you…had life altering experiences coming to games watching you play. So when it gets ripped from them in a trade…it feels like a piece of them is gone too,” the Nets vet said.

The Nets forward certainly has a point. Irving was once a staple for the franchise then things didn't work out. Between injuries and inconsistencies, Kyrie eventually left Beantown. The Celtics fans might hate him now, but at one time, he was a player they admired.

Despite their antics towards him, Irving went off in Game 1, scoring 39 points in the loss and thriving off the negative energy. Durant struggled to get going though, posting only 23. Game 2 is scheduled for Wednesday and the superstar duo will be looking to lead the Nets to a much-needed win to avoid a dreaded 0-2 hole.
