Brooklyn Nets forward Rodions Kurucs was arrested on domestic violence allegations earlier this month, as he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend in his Brooklyn apartment back in June.

Kurucs says he has the full support of his Nets teammates:

“Yeah for sure, guys reached out. They were just so supportive. I know they have family [atmosphere] here,” Kurucs told reporters on Friday, marking the first time he spoke with the media since the alleged incident (per Brian Lewis of The New York Post). “So I always know that they’ve got my back and they are always here for me to talk or I can trust them 100 percent.”

Kurucs did not enter a plea deal and was released without bail on Sept. 3. He is due to be back in on Oct. 21, two days before the Nets open up their regular season against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Kurucs says he does not know whether or not the NBA will suspend him in light of the allegations.

“No, I can’t tell you anything about it because I don’t know myself what’s going to happen. We’ll see,” he said.

According to the police report, Kurucs allegedly threatened to kill himself during an argument with his girlfriend on June 27 and then grabbed her by the neck, threw her on the bed and slapped her.

“I can’t comment on any of that. We all understand the situation,” said Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson. “I just know that me and Rodi have a good relationship and we talk a lot, and it’s part of your job as a coach to be a mentor and talk through on-court problems and off-court situations. That’s about all I can say on that.”

Kurucs is expected to compete for a starting job during training camp.
