Brooklyn Nets general manager Sean Marks has denied that superstars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving played a big role in head coach Kenny Atkinson's firing.

The Nets and Atkinson mutually agreed to part ways on Saturday. Jacque Vaughn will assume duties as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

Atkinson had a 118-190 record over three-plus seasons with the Nets:

Irving played in only 20 games this season because of his shoulder injury which required surgery, while Durant hasn't played all season due to his Achilles tear.

The Nets are 28-34 on the season. They are in seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Look, even if Durant and Irving wanted Atkinson gone, Marks isn't going to admit that to the media. The Nets' coaching vacancy will be a job a lot of coaches want since Brooklyn will be title contenders next season once Durant and Irving suit up together.

Durant has career averages of 27.0 points, 7.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 849 games with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Golden State Warriors. The former MVP is one of the best scorers of all time and Nets fans can’t wait to see Durant on the floor at the Barclays Center, competing with Irving and Caris LeVert by his side.

However, fans want to make sure the Nets hire the right coach moving forward.
