Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving continues to be at the center of the COVID-19 drama across the NBA because he still hasn’t received the vaccine. Of course, there have been lots of opinions about the situation, good and bad. ultimately, he could have to sit out all of the Nets’ home games due to the mandates in New York City.

TNT analyst and Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal recently gave his take on the whole Irving situation. Via Bleacher Report:

Diesel has a great point. Kyrie does have an obligation to play for the Nets after they awarded him with a massive $200 million deal. Also, this is their championship window right now. Injuries hurt their title aspirations last season, but barring any more health issues, the stars are aligned for the Big 3 to get it done and win a championship in 2022. Without Kyrie, the Nets simply won’t be able to do it. He should be putting his teammates above everything else.

Irving is also sacrificing potentially millions if he refuses to get the jab because of the recent news that players who aren’t vaccinated won’t get paid for games they miss. He’s one to always preach how he wants his privacy but like Shaq said, when you’re a public figure in this league, privacy just isn’t a thing.

O’Neal makes some very valid points, but the question is, will the Nets guard change his mind and get the shot? That remains to be seen. You better believe Kevin Durant and James Harden are hoping for it though because they desperately need Irving on the floor with them to take Brooklyn to new heights.
