Trade rumors are ramping up, especially with the 2022 NBA Draft taking place on Thursday night. It sounds like the Brooklyn Nets may have a busy offseason this year, as Kyrie Irving's future with the club is up in the air. As a result, opposing teams are keeping tabs on Kevin Durant for now.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Nets are currently in contract talks with Kyrie Irving, but if a deal cannot be reached and Irving winds up leaving, Brooklyn fears Kevin Durant will seek a trade. Wojnarowski explains the situation the front office is in:

“For everything owner Joe Tsai and general manager Sean Marks did to assemble one of the modern NBA's most talented Big 3s, Irving's impenetrable connection to Durant looms as a domino to the dismantling of the roster. Brooklyn is straddling the narrowest of walkways: Keeping conviction on Irving's contract talks and keeping Durant's desire to stay a Net.”

It's not an ideal situation for Brooklyn, as they could lose both of their superstars in one offseason. If Kyrie Irving walks, rumors are the chances Kevin Durant seeks a trade drastically increases. In fact, opposing clubs are said to be “rooting” for an Irving departure with the hopes of Durant becoming available via trade, per Woj:

“There are teams rooting for Irving to opt-out and walk away from the Nets, believing it would give them a chance to cobble together trade packages to acquire Durant.”

The Nets' future seems to hang in the balance of Kyrie Irving's decision. If he stays, the franchise likely has him and Kevin Durant on the roster for at least another year. If not, then Brooklyn may have to enter a rebuild sooner than expected with Ben Simmons as the top star on the roster. Look for more updates in the coming days, as Irving should make his decision before the start of free agency.
