New York Jets Week 9 Predictions

4. New York Jets QB Mike White will throw for over 250 yards

The Mike White Show goes on the road to Indianapolis in Week 9. White stunned the Cincinnati Bengals and the rest of the NFL by throwing for over 400 yards in his first NFL start this past Sunday, helping Robert Saleh's team to a massive upset win. Only one other quarterback — Cam Newton with the Carolina Panthers — threw for over 400 yards in his first NFL start. White is in a very exclusive club, and for at least one week, he has made the Jets an interesting watch.

How many yards will White throw for in this Jets game? Not 400. Maybe 300, but we're comfortable saying 250. White won't get completely shut down, but the 3-5 Colts will be desperate to win this game. It's a must-win for their playoff chances if we're being honest. They have to take care of the games they expect to win; if they don't, they'll fall below .500 and crush their chances. Indianapolis won't necessarily dominate White, but it will contain White at a level the Bengals failed to achieve.

3. White will throw one touchdown pass and two interceptions

White will land a few shots down the field, but only a few. He will throw for a touchdown in this game, though probably in the second half when playing catch-up and not in a neutral early-game situation. The Colts are bad at finishing games, but they're good at starting games. White won't have a brutal stat line, but he will have a bumpy flight for the Jets on TNF in Week 9.

2. Jets will pick off Colts QB Carson Wentz twice

You could see the exasperation on various Colts players' faces after Carson Wentz threw each of his last two interceptions on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. Wentz's interception which led to a Tennessee touchdown, followed by his overtime pick which led to Tennessee's game-winning score, were both atrocious plays from a quarterback whose resurrection has simply not occurred. Robert Saleh confused Joe Burrow in the first half of the Jets' upset of the Bengals. Burrow made some adjustments but was well below his best for most of the 60-minute competition against New York. In Week 9, Wentz won't snap into a state of focus; he will continue to make mistakes, and Saleh's defense will be there to hound him.

1. New York Jets will come close, but will narrowly lose to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 9

While it's hard to take the Jets to win outright, it's not hard to see them coming very close to victory against a discouraged Carson Wentz and a Colts team dealing with a nasty post-defeat hangover. The Colts needed that game against the Titans. There's a decent chance they will still be thinking about that loss, certainly on offense.

The Jets should be able to contain the Colts' offense. The challenge is for Mike White to remain locked in after he gained the NFL's — and the Colts' — attention this past Sunday. Can he do that? The odds say no, but the odds also suggested White would not throw for 400 yards against the Bengals.

Colts 23, Jets 17, in Week 9.
