The New York Knicks are desperately attempting to build a winning team. They entered the 2021-2022 NBA season with big expectations, but fell well short of their goal. They would have been last season's greatest disappointment had the Los Angeles Lakers not endured a terrible season. But the Knicks are trying to run it back. Jalen Brunson, Julius Randle, and RJ Barrett will look to lead this team.

But have the Knicks done enough? Today, we are grading each Knicks' major signing in 2022 NBA free agency.

Knicks 2022 NBA free agency grades

Isaiah Hartenstein

The Knicks signed center Isaiah Hartenstein to 2-year, $16 million dollar deal. At just 24 years old, Hartenstein is just scratching the surface as an NBA big man. This signing has the potential to be a steal for New York without question.

Hartenstein spent the 2021-2022 season in LA with the Clippers. He averaged 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 block per game while averaging just 18 minutes per contest. So he made the most of his time on the court.

This is a quality deal for New York. The risk is low. But his youth makes the reward high. Hartenstein could breakout as a star with proper playing time. And if not, he makes for a good role player.

Grade: A-

Mitchell Robinson

Mitchell Robinson re-signed with the Knicks on a 4-year, $60 million dollar contract. He is another 24-year old center who offers plenty of potential. Between Hartenstein and Robinson, New York has an impressive foundation in the post.

2022-2023 will be Robinson's 5th NBA campaign. For his career, he has averaged 8.5 points, 2 blocks, and just under 9 rebounds per game. He does not offer much in the way of scoring. He features limited range and does all of his scoring in the interior. But Mitchell Robinson is a tremendous rim protector and rebounder.

The Knicks understand what he brings to the table which ultimately led to this contract.

The only real upgrade they could have made was Rudy Gobert or Deandre Ayton. But Robinson comes at a cheaper price and still produces strong numbers.

Grade A

Jalen Brunson

The Knicks main goal this offseason was to sign Jalen Brunson. He obviously impressed them during his time in Dallas with the Mavericks.

Brunson is expected to sign a 4-year, $104 millions dollar deal with New York. Both sides are still working out the details, but the deal is expected to come to fruition sooner than later.

Jalen Brunson emerged as a star alongside Luka Doncic in 2021-2022. After a decent 2020-2021 campaign, it was clear Brunson worked hard to reach the next level prior to last season. He averaged 16 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, and just under 1 steal per game. Additionally, the 25-year old guard shot 50 percent from the field and over 37 percent from beyond the arc.

There is no question that the Mavericks wouldn't have made it to the Western Conference Finals without Brunson's contributions. Luka Doncic was the clear leader of the team, but Brunson was a tremendous second option for Dallas.

And now he will receive the chance to lead the Knicks under the bright lights of New York. The team is desperate for a winning season and Brunson has every intention of helping them reach new heights.

As long as there are no unforeseen circumstances and this deal does get completed, I like this signing for New York.
