Former UCLA head coach Jim Mora surprised many with his comments about his former quarterback, Josh Rosen. Probably no one more shocked than Rosen himself. Never one to take anything lying down, Rosen decided on Monday that he needed to respond to Mora’s comments.

To his credit, his response was good. He posted the first one late in the morning:

The other came later in the afternoon:

So—what prompted this?

It started last week when Mora was making an appearance on the NFL Network. He said that he felt the Cleveland Browns should take former USC quarterback Sam Darnold with the No. 1 pick—not his former QB, Josh Rosen.

The lack of loyalty is disappointing, but he’s allowed to have an opinion. But the comments that were unflattering were the ones he made during an interview with Sports Illustrated Sunday (via ESPN):

“He needs to be challenged intellectually, so he doesn't get bored. He's a millennial. He wants to know why. Millennials, once they know why, they're good. Josh has a lot of interests in life. If you can hold his concentration level and focus only on football for a few years, he will set the world on fire. He has so much ability, and he's a really good kid.”

Ouch.

Jim Mora is allowed to have his own opinion on his former player or anyone else. But you would think that coaching someone for the last three years would have instilled some sense of loyalty. You would think Mora would want to promote one of his players; not paint him as someone with a short attention span that will zone out on you if he gets bored.
