In 2004, the University of Miami set an NFL Draft record. Six Hurricanes were selected in the first round, a record that has since gone untouched.

That could change in 2019. The University of Alabama Crimson Tide are threatening to at least tie Miami's record.

As Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk explains:

Alabama has six players who are in the first rounds of various mock drafts: Defensive lineman Quinnen Williams, offensive tackle Jonah Williams, running back Josh Jacobs, safety Deionte Thompson, tight end Irv Smith Jr. and linebacker Mack Wilson.

Smith is quick to note that this is far from a guarantee. While Alabama has six players projected to go in the first round, the draft is still more than two months away. Plenty can change in that time.

However, this news is a testament to Alabama's success in finding and developing NFL talent. Over the past two seasons, Nick Saban's team has lost 22 players, eight of which were taken in the first round. Despite this roster turnover, the Crimson Tide have made it to the NCAA championship each of the past four seasons.

The standout of this year's Alabama draft crop is Williams. The defensive lineman is seen as a lock to go in the first five picks. It is thought that the Arizona Cardinals could even select Williams with the first pick overall.

The six Hurricanes selected in that record 2004 NFL Draft were Sean Taylor, Kellen Winslow, Jonathan Vilma, D.J. Willams, Vernon Carey, and Vince Wilfork. That group combined for 11 Pro Bowl appearances. All six have retired.
