Aldon Smith was arrested yet again. The former 49ers and Raiders linebacker was booked on suspicion of DUI on Monday night, per Robert Cronkleton of the Kansas City Star.

We haven't heard Smith's name in a while, and unfortunately he isn't emerging under positive circumstances. He's been arrested several times in the past for DUI, so he could be facing serious legal consequences.

Aldon Smith was always a very talented player, and it looked for a while like he was on his way to becoming one of the league's best pass-rushers. The 49ers drafted him seventh overall in 2011, and he became an immediate star. He had 14 sacks as a rookie, and followed it up with 19.5 sacks as a sophomore, earning him a first-team All-Pro selection.

He was first arrested in January of 2012, and the legal problems only piled up from there. In 2013 he went to rehab and missed five games. In 2014, he was suspended for nine games for violating various league policies.

Following an arrest for a third DUI in August of 2015, the 49ers finally cut him. He was soon scooped up by the Raiders and spent nine games in Oakland. He played reasonably well, but was slapped with a one-year suspension in November of that year.

He applied for reinstatement the following year, but never got it. He hasn't appeared in a game since, and it's all but certain that his NFL career is over. Obviously some things are bigger than football, and getting his life sorted out off the field is most important.
