The NFL has suspended free agent wide receiver Leonte Carroo for four games, according to Field Yates of ESPN. It it not yet clear why Carroo has been banned.

Carroo spent the 2018 campaign with the Miami Dolphins, playing in nine games and logging two catches for 94 yards and a touchdown.

The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Rutgers University, was originally selected by the Dolphins in the third round (86th pick overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.

He appeared in 14 contests during his rookie year, finishing with three receptions for 29 yards and a score. Then, the following season, Carroo participated in 14 games and snared seven balls for 69 yards.

Carroo has been a disappointment thus far at the NFL level, but in college, he was a very solid receiver.

He arrived at Rutgers in 2012, but did not actually see his first action until 2013, when he caught 28 passes for 478 yards and nine touchdowns. Carroo then broke out during his junior campaign in 2014, hauling in 55 receptions for 1,086 yards and 10 scores. He proceeded to finish off his tenure with the Scarlet Knights by bringing in 39 catches for 809 yards while reaching the end zone 10 times during his senior season.

The Plainfield, N.J. native was not likely to be brought back by Miami for the 2019 campaign, and thus far, he has received virtually no interest on the free agent market.

Carroo never really got much of a chance with the Dolphins, as he spent most of his tenure in South Beach battling for the No. 4 receiver role, in stark contrast to his NCAA career.
