It was already pre-determined that the Miami Dolphins were going to give up one of their home games next season to play an international game. Since then, it has been decided that the Dolphins will face off with the New England Patriots in Mexico in the 2020 NFL season.

Over the years, the NFL has attempted to grow their fanbase by playing games internationally. The NFL has held a game in Mexico in 2005, 2016, 2017, and 2019.

The last game to occur south of the border came in 2019 between the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers. Just a year later, the NFL will have another divisional matchup set up to take place in Mexico.

When the NFL plays a game in Mexico, it is held at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. Back in 2018, the Los Angeles Rams were supposed to square off with the Chiefs in Mexico City. Unfortunately, the game was relocated due to the field conditions.

The last time that the Dolphins played the Patriots, they upset them in Week 17 of the 2019 season. Due to New England's surprising loss, they were unable to clinch home-field advantage in the playoffs.

Given that, the Patriots are motivated to defeat the Dolphins in front of the crowd in Mexico City. Of course, it remains to be seen if Tom Brady will be starting for the Patriots next season.  The 42-year-old quarterback is an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career.

For some odd reason, Brady has typically struggled on the road against the Dolphins. Luckily for him (if he re-signs with the Patriots), Miami's home game versus New England will take place in Mexico City in 2020.
