Peyton Manning was a proven leader in the 18 seasons he spent playing quarterback in the NFL. But, is he also suited to be leader of men off the gridiron?

We ask that question because Joe Perticone of Business Insider reported that Tennessee representative Scott DesJarlais told him that the future Hall of Fame signal-caller is entertaining the idea of running for a Senate seat in the state next year.

Athletes are born competitive, but once their sporting careers end, they always find other endeavors to keep them from being idle. Manning must be missing the times when he was constantly studying the game of football and playing it on a weekly basis for over two decades dating back to his days as a Tennessee Volunteer. He left the game for good in 2016, but not before winning his second Super Bowl ring as a member of the Denver Broncos.

While nothing is definite yet and we haven’t heard from Manning himself about his political plans – if there are any – it’s worth noting that he played golf along with Tennessee Senator Bob Corker last June. Further fanning the flame of Manning’s rumored senatorial run is the fact that Corker said last Tuesday that he’s not looking to run for re-election in 2018.
