A San Diego Prosecutor is seeking the full 18-year sentence for former NFL standout Kellen Winslow Jr. In November, Winslow pleaded guilty to rape and sexual battery on the eve of the trail. He was looking at life in jail before the plea deal was agreed upon. With the plea, time spent in prison will be between 12-18 years.

According to Brent Schrotenboer of USA Today, San Diego County Deputy District Attorney Dan Owens is looking for six years for the two rape charges. Owens also is seeking a year for felony sexual battery, and another two for misdemeanor sex offenses.

“In addition to the facts underlying the crimes themselves, perhaps equally indicative of (Winslow’s) callousness and utter disregard for the safety and well-being of his victims is that (Winslow) committed these attacks despite the fact that he came from a supportive family and had a family of his own,” Owens wrote. “(Winslow) committed these despicable crimes despite being afforded every advantage in life, and he selected victims who came from much less fortunate backgrounds.”

Winslow's attorneys are expected to ask for the minimum of 12 years in prison. As part of their argument, they will present evidence he suffers from CTE.

CTE can't actually be diagnosed until after death, but according to some close to Winslow, he shows signs that he suffers from it. The sentencing is scheduled for February 19th with the judge getting the final say on how many more years Winslow will have to spend locked up in prison.
