New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees passed Peyton Manning for most career touchdown passes on Monday night, hitting 540 for his career. He did so by stringing a 5-yard toss to tight Josh Hill against the Indianapolis Colts in the third quarter of the “Monday Night Football” bout.

Watch below. Brees, on play-action, dropped back, scanned the field and found a wide-open Hill. The crowd at the Mercedes Superdome erupted. Brees is now the all-time leader in touchdown passes. Their celebration far-outweighed the 27-0 lead on the scoreboard.

Earlier in the game — specifically at the end of the second half — Brees, and subsequently all of New Orleans, thought he broke the touchdown record. However, that wasn't the truth, as his touchdown pass was called back for a penalty. Naturally, chants berating the refs roared through the Superdome.

Once a risky free agent signing out of the San Diego Chargers due to injuries, Brees has proven to be one of the greatest free agents in NFL history. Since coming to New Orleans in 2006, he has thrown for 460 touchdowns. In the process, he has transformed the Saints franchise, going from a bottom-dweller to a perennial playoff team and a Super Bowl winner.

Now in his 19th season in the NFL, Brees is a guaranteed Hall of Fame. He can retire tomorrow and walk into the shrine in Canton, Ohio, with no issue. However, he's far from done. The Saints, who are rolling against the Colts, are a legitimate Super Bowl threat, who will wake up Tuesday 11-3.
