Sean Payton pushed for the NFL to allow head coaches to challenge pass interference calls moving forward. Some approve of the new rule, but former New England Patriots cornerback Ty Law isn't a fan.

In a recent conference call, Ty Law said he believes that replay for pass interference will hurt the game. Law is entering the Hall of Fame this weekend and the rule will be implemented for the first time this Thursday in the Hall of Fame game.

“I am disappointed in that because it’s going to take away from the game,” Law said, via comments distributed by the Patriots. “You know, referees are out there for a reason. Yes, they don’t make every call right, but something like that — a pass interference — once you start opening that can of worms, it’s going to get ugly, and the game’s going to get a lot longer.”

The only reason the rule came about was due to a non-call on a pass interference that occurred in the NFC Championship game between the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Rams. On the play, Nickell Robey-Coleman hit Tommylee Lewis before the ball arrived.

The early hit should've warranted a flag ,but the refs failed to throw the yellow flag. Now, coaches can throw a red flag to challenge pass interference calls that happen in a game.

A lot of coaches were in favor of making it a rule but some players—current and former—have shared their distaste for the new rule. Nonetheless, we'll see how the rule affects the game as the preseason begins this Thursday night.
