The Miami Dolphins will face the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football. It's time to continue our NFL odds series and make a Dolphins-Saints prediction and pick.

This is a must-win game for both of these teams. The Dolphins have played their way back into playoff contention after six straight victories, but the streak can't stop now. There are several teams ahead of them in the race for the last wild card spot, so another loss would ensure that the Dolphins are watching the postseason from their couches. The Saints are in an incredibly similar situation, but they don't have the win streak that Miami has coming into this contest. Another loss would pretty much knock out New Orleans, so expect all the stops to be pulled out in this game.

Why The Dolphins Could Cover The Spread

Miami is one of the few teams in the NFL that is winning games off of the strength of their defense. In four of their last six wins, the Dolphins have held their opponents to ten points or less. Now they face a New Orleans offense that has been far from good lately. The Saints have scored more than 20 points only once in their last four games, and they've relied mostly on the run game throughout those contests. Miami is one of the best run defenses in the league, as they only allow 103 rushing yards per game and 4.3 yards per carry. The Saints and quarterback Taysom Hill should be held to less than 20 points again here.

The Dolphins come into this game with a 7-6-1 record against the spread, one of the better numbers in the league. Miami has only entered a game as a road favorite once this season, and they managed to cover in that contest. Meanwhile, the Saints are only 1-2 against the spread as home underdogs. This looks like a great spot to pick a streaking Dolphins team to cover.

Why The Saints Could Cover The Spread

In one of the most shocking games of the year, New Orleans managed to pitch a shutout against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 15. The Saints played a nearly flawless defensive game against one of the best offenses in the NFL. Now that streaking defense will take on a subpar Dolphins attack. Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been a turnover machine, and the Saints excel at taking the ball away. The Dolphins are also one of the worst rushing offenses in the league, while the Saints are one of the best rushing defenses. Miami should be forced into a one-dimensional passing attack that the Saints are more than capable of putting a stop to.

While it's true that the Dolphins' defense has been playing exceptionally well lately, their level of competition isn't exactly top-tier. In that stretch of defensive excellence, Miami played the Carolina Panthers, the New York Jets, and the New York Giants without Daniel Jones. Those are three of the worst offensive teams in the NFL. The Saints may not be the greatest show on turf, but they're certainly better than the Jets, the team that Miami just allowed 24 points to. The Saints will however be without their top two quarterbacks in this one so they will rely on the run game even more than usual.

Final Dolphins-Saints Prediction & Pick

These teams are just about evenly matched, but the Saints are the more experienced team on their home turf. Take New Orleans and the points here.
