Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick was ostracized by the league for peacefully protesting during the national anthem, which is played before every game. Kaepernickā€™s protest foreshadowed the widespread protesting going on around the country currently following the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police.

Now, while Kap continues to lead and tackle issues such as police brutality, mistreatment of minorities and general systemic racism, the former San Francisco 49ers QB is also apparently ā€œmore motivated to play than everā€ (per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk).

Kaepernick has not played a game in the NFL since January 1, 2017, when his 49ers fell to the Seattle Seahawks to end a dispiriting 2-14 season.

The 32-year-old veteran first opted to kneel during the anthem in the 2016 preseason, and he did it during each game the 49ers played during the campaign.

Admittedly, Kaepernickā€™s performance dipped in his final year, but much of that could likely be chalked up to the immense media hoopla that was produced by his fairly reasonable style of protesting the simple fact that systemic racism exists ā€“ as does police brutality that is frequently directed towards minorities.

Kaepernickā€™s most memorable season was likely the 2012 campaign when he took over from Alex Smith and led the 49ers within three points of a Super Bowl victory. In the end, the team was defeated 34-31 by the Baltimore Ravens.

It would be nice to see the NFL make the gesture of bringing Colin Kaepernick back to the fold. Despite him working out for multiple teams since the league unofficially exiled him, no franchise has taken the chance on bringing him back. Letā€™s hope that changes soon, especially as a movement that he shone light on has become a global one.
