The Chicago Bears appear to be set on trading for a veteran quarterback. According to Ed Werder of ESPN, the Bears are targeting Nick Foles or Andy Dalton through trade.

As stated by Werder:

“Source: #Bears are focused on acquiring Andy Dalton or Nick Foles – both veteran quarterbacks who have played for either Matt Nagy or members of coaching staff. There’s a sense in the organization that Mitchell Trubisky should be forced to compete for the starting position.”

As noted above, Chicago wants former top pick Mitchell Trubisky to compete for the starting position. It's clear that after a disappointing 2019 campaign, the Bears want to see some improvement from Trubisky. By bringing in an established veteran signal caller such as Foles or Dalton, that should bring the very best out of the young quarterback.

Foles is a former Super Bowl MVP who lost his starting job with the Jacksonville Jaguars last season. Head coach Matt Nagy previously coached Foles as the offensive quality control coach for Philadelphia in 2012.

As far as Dalton is concerned, his best years appear to be behind him. However, he is a three-time Pro Bowl quarterback who has served as a starter for the past nine years. If you're Chicago, he has one of the best resumes of any quarterback available on the market.

When you factor in that Cincinnati is likely desperate to get rid of him, that should sweeten things for Chicago. The Bengals hold the top overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and are expected to draft Joe Burrow.

One thing is for certain in Chicago — they are not happy with Trubisky's production from last season.
