The Pittsburgh Penguins will be back on home ice tonight as they look to take on the league leader in points this season, the Colorado Avalanche. These two teams just played on Saturday in Denver where the Avalanche ended up winning the game 3-2. This matchup could very possibly be a Stanley Cup Final matchup this year, and it would be a great one. With that for now, it’s time to continue our NHL odds series with an Avalanche-Penguins prediction and pick.

Why The Avalanche Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Colorado Avalanche head into this game on a three-game winning streak, including their win against the Penguins on Saturday. In fact, the Avs are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games as they are looking to make a very deep run in the playoffs this year. The Avs have been winning games without Nazem Kadri or Gabriel Landeskog, to name a few of their injuries, and it shows just how much depth is on this team, being able to step up where they need the help. A lot of their success can also be credited to their goaltending in Darcy Kuemper, who will most likely get another start tonight. He's representing a .925 save percentage while allowing just 2.37 goals against per game. This should be yet another exciting matchup tonight.

Why The Penguins Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Pittsburgh Penguins haven't been putting together wins very easily lately, going 2-3-0 in their last five games. The Pens are one of the strongest teams in the league, defensively, allowing just 2.6 goals against per game at a team. Of course, the Penguins are also very good on offense through their star players like Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. The Pens have what it takes to shut down this Avalanche offense, they just need to prove it tonight. In net for the Pens is likely going to be Tristan Jarry, once again, who is having a great year so far, sporting a .921 save percentage while allowing 2.34 goals against per game. He'll definitely have his hands full again tonight.

Final Avalanche-Penguins Prediction & Pick

It's almost insane to bet against the Avalanche this season, they're just so good. However, it's extremely difficult to beat teams twice in a row in this league, and the Penguins are at home. I don't love this pick, to be honest, I probably wouldn't touch this game at all, but I'm going to go ahead and take the Penguins at home tonight. Again, it's insane to bet against the Avs, but I think the Penguins find a way to get it done tonight and put an end to the Avs' mini winning streak.
