The St. Louis Blues will head north into Ohio tonight to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets. This will be the last time these two teams face off after the Blues won their first matchup back in November. The Blues are in second place in the Central Division right now but are really only there due to the Wild dramatically siding down the ranks. The Blue Jackets most likely will not be making playoffs this year, but are still looking to end the season on a high note. It’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Blues-Blue Jackets prediction and pick.

Why The Blues Can Cover The Spread/Win

The St. Louis Blues have a bunch of talent on both ends of the ice and take advantage of the skill that they have. Jordan Kyrou, Vladimir Tarasenko, Pavel Buchnevich, etc. have all been very good this season as it shows in the standings, a solid second place in the Central division right now. Even though they're one of the better teams in the West, the Blues have a tough time getting anything done at full strength. Most of their goals come from their power-play unit, as they're scoring 26.3 percent of the time. With a man down on the penalty kill, the Blues are holding up well with an 82.7 percent success rate.

Now number one goaltender Ville Husso will look to get the start tonight as he's been standing on his head lately, allowing 2.22 goals against on the season a .930 save percentage. He'll look to keep doing what he's doing as he tries to shut down the Blue Jackets tonight.

Why The Blue Jackets Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Columbus Blue Jackets have managed to stay competitive in the East where the playoffs are practically already set, team-wise, and Columbus, unfortunately, is going to miss the party. The Blue Jackets have had some great production from a few of their players, they sore a lot of goals (3.25 goals per game) but can't stop a puck on defense as they're allowing 3.67 goals per game. The power play has definitely seen some better days since they're scoring at an 18.3 percent rate, but their penalty kill is great, succeeding 79.2 percent of the time. As far as goaltending goes, the Blue Jackets haven't had much to write home about.

Netminder Elvis Merzlikins will most likely get the start tonight for Columbus as he is posting a .903 save percentage while allowing 3.40 goals against per game. He'll really need to step up his game if they want to keep winning hockey games.

Final Blues-Blue Jackets Prediction & Pick

Both of these teams have been playing well recently, and this could very easily be a close matchup tonight. However, I think the Blue Jackets don't go down without a fight. This game could very easily become a high-scoring matchup, but I like Columbus at home. I don't think they'll win, but I think they can at least cover the puck line. Give me Columbus +1.5 (-170) as we sit back and hope for the best.

Final Blues-Blue Jackets Prediction and Pick: Columbus +1.5 (-170)
