The Calgary Flames play host to a young and up-and-coming Anaheim Ducks in this Pacific Division rivalry matchup. The Flames currently sit on top of the divisional standings with 60 points, while the Ducks look like they will fighting for a playoff spot going forward with the Edmonton Oilers and the Los Angeles Kings, as all three of those teams have 55 points. With that said, it’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Ducks-Flames prediction and pick.

Why The Ducks Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Ducks have slowly started to fall back off after their nice start to the season, and while they do have clear holes in their game, the Ducks continue to focus on their young star talent in Trevor Zegras, Troy Terry, and Jamie Drysdale. They've been a light at the end of this Ducks drought tunnel, having not made playoffs since 2018.

Another player the Ducks are happy to have is All-Star goaltender John Gibson. He should be getting the start tonight as his 15-11-8 record doesn't reflect how much of an impact Gibson has on this Anaheim team. He's averaging 2.54 goals against per game and a .921 save percentage, just can't get the help in front of him that he deserves. As long as the young Ducks can capture momentum, Gibson can keep them in this tough matchup, especially enough to cover a +1.5 point puck-line.

Why The Flames Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Calgary Flames have been red hot lately, pun intended, as they have won nine of their last 10 matchups, and are currently on a seven-game winning streak while deservingly pulling ahead in the Pacific Division. They are also on their fifth leg of their seven-game homestand and General Manager Brad Treliving is only looking up from here after trading for Tyler Toffoli, who already seems to be fitting in nicely after tickling twine in last night's win against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Toffoli will be a nice addition to Calgary's middle-six forward corp, which will allow them to stay dominant and continue on their point lead for first place in the division.

The Flames have also had excellent goaltending in Jacob Markstrom, who is expected to get the start tonight after getting the night off on Tuesday. He has a .926 save percentage and allows 2.12 goals per game. He'll look to improve on his league-leading eight shutouts as he tries to shut the door on the Ducks tonight.

Final Ducks-Flames Prediction & Pick

The Flames have truly been dominant as of late, covering the puck line in six of their last seven home games, and I expect them to do it again tonight against a struggling Anaheim Ducks team. A price of +112 for Calgary to cover another home puck-line is not super ideal odds, but it's still plus money, which is always a nice sight to see in any sportsbook. Look for the Flames to score early and often even on an elite goaltender like Gibson. Calgary has considerably more depth and talent than Anaheim, and they'll look to flex that tonight in this back-to-back home matchup.

Final Ducks-Flames Prediction & Pick: Flames -1.5 (+112)
