Why The Flames Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Calgary Flames are at the top of their division for a reason. They head into this game off of a win in Los Angeles on Monday, keeping them four points ahead of the Oilers in the Pacific Division. The Flames are slowly starting to see a decrease in numbers though, as there have been six or fewer total goals scored in eight of their last 13 games. Most of this comes from Calgary's underrated blue line, but also their goaltending has been great.

Jacob Markstrom will look to get the start between the pipes tonight for the Flames as he has been lights out this season, averaging a .924 save percentage while allowing 2.19 goals against per game. He'll look to stop the pucks from going in the net tonight (look for Markstrom under total saves tonight, simply because I imagine the Ducks won't be getting very many shots on net).

Why The Ducks Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Anaheim Ducks started this season off so strong and quickly plummeted downhill in the second half of the season. The Ducks' offense has been dreadful and will certainly struggle against a great Flames defense tonight. But nevertheless, the Ducks will still look to stay aggressive, no matter how far out of the playoffs they are (15 points behind). At this point, they're ready to move on to next season and regroup accordingly. Starting in net for the Ducks should be John Gibson, who has had a rough season compared to what we're used to seeing out of him. Gibson is sporting a .904 save percentage and allowing 3.15 goals against per game. He'll look to put a stop to the Flames tonight and try to finish out the season on a healthy note.

Final Flames-Ducks Prediction & Pick

The Ducks' offense is just notably bad right now, and the Flames are still firing on all cylinders. I think the Flames will easily be able to take care of business on the road tonight. I want to lean towards taking under six total goals tonight, as both of these teams love to stay low scoring, but I'd rather take the better odds with the spread. I'm never entirely confident with betting on favorite spreads in the NHL because anything can happen, but it's almost a give-away since the odds are technically in minus money – a rare sight for the favorite spread. Let's not overthink this and just take the Flames -1.5 tonight.

Final Flames-Ducks Prediction and Pick: Flames -1.5 (-110)
