Why The Oilers Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Edmonton Oilers have hit the point of the season where every game matters for them. They're currently in third place in the Pacific Division with just a three-point cushion over Vegas. The Oilers head into this game on a 5-2 win over the Sharks on Thursday as they improve to 6-3-1 over their last 10 matchups. The biggest issue for the Oilers is their goaltending, not allowing the rest of the team to stay in games. With that said, in net for the Oilers tonight will likely be Mikko Koskinen, as he's been the 1A starter for the Oilers lately. He's sporting a .903 save percentage and allowing 3.07 goals against per game. He'll look to try and shut down a very difficult Flames team tonight.

Why The Flames Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Calgary Flames are on top of the Pacific Division with a five-point cushion over the Kings. The Flames have cooled off a bit (pun intended), going 6-3-1 in their last 10 games, but are overall trying to not peak too early before the playoffs. This game is also the tail end of a back-to-back series for the Flames as they defeated the Coyotes at home last night. Star goaltender Jacob Markstrom got the start for the Flames the night before, so we can expect to see backup netminder Dan Vladar in between the home pipes tonight. Vladar is sporting a .904 save percentage while allowing 2.84 goals against per game. He'll look to be on his A-game tonight as he'll try to shut down Connor McDavid and company.

Final Oilers-Flames Prediction & Pick

This is a very tough pick because no matter how bad or how good these teams are playing, they both turn it up a notch for this rivalry. The Flames are overall the better team out of the two, but the Oilers have been hot lately, sporting a 6-1-1 record in their last eight games. Flames haven't exactly been on their best lately, going 2-3 in their last five games, and on the tail end of a back-to-back. I'll be honest, I probably wouldn't bet on this game as the odds just aren't there to take right now, but for value, I would lean towards Oilers Moneyline (+122) or just the over total goals (6.5 for -115).

To be safe, I'm going to go with the total goals being over 6.5, just because I simply don't trust Edmonton's goaltending. But, the value is there in plus money, so I might sprinkle half of a unit of their Moneyline.

Final Oilers-Flames Prediction and Pick: Over 6.5 (-115)
