Why The Rangers Can Cover The Spread/Win

The New York Rangers enter this game on the second half of a road back-to-back after a very solid Rangers win yesterday against the Lightning. Since the superstar goaltender in Igor Shesterkin got the start in that game yesterday, we should expect to see Alexandar Georgiev start between the pipes for the Rangers tonight. He's averaging 3.14 goals against per game with a .892 save percentage through 24 games played on the season.

Without Shesterkin in the net, the Rangers are a completely different team since they fully rely on him to win them games. With Georgiev in net, over his last seven road starts, the Rangers are just 1-6, with all six of the losses coming by two goals or more. With that said, no matter who gets the start, the Rangers are still ranked 23rd in the league in scoring. They'll look to improve on that tonight against a very good Hurricanes team.

Why The Hurricanes Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Carolina Hurricanes come into this matchup looking to break a rare three-game losing streak. Luckily for them, this would be the game to do it: at home and going up against Georgiev in net for the Rangers. Defending the home crease for the Hurricanes will most likely be starter Frederik Andersen who is having a great year overall. He's currently sporting a .928 save percentage while allowing just 2.08 goals per game. Over his last nine home starts, Andersen is 8-0-1 as he'll look to keep the point streak alive. With Georgiev in net for the Rangers, the Hurricanes will look to beat up on the Rangers tonight and grab another two points towards to help make up for the losing streak.

Final Rangers-Hurricanes Prediction & Pick

This is another one of those “don't overthink it” kinds of games. The technique is simple: any time the Rangers are starting Georgiev in net, fade the Rangers. This has been nearly flawless all season long, so why stop now? Especially against such a great team in the Hurricanes on home ice. I don't like the odds for a straight-up Moneyline on the Hurricanes, so let's just play the value pick here and take them to cover the -1.5 puck line tonight.

Final Rangers-Hurricanes Prediction and Pick: Carolina -1.5 (+122)
