The Dallas Stars will be heading on the road as they will look to face off against a Central Division rival in the Minnesota Wild tonight. The Stars have been red-hot lately and are now just two points back from Minnesota for the third spot in the division. The Wild have been ice cold lately as they're 3-7-0 in their last 10 games and continue to move down the standings. With that, it’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Stars-Wild prediction and pick.

Why The Stars Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Dallas Stars won a 4-3 overtime game against the Jets on Friday, improving their record to 8-2-1 over their last 11 games. This recent surge in games has moved the Stars into a playoff spot, but they want more. They're just one point away from the first wild card spot, and only two points away from the third seed in the Central Division. The Stars' top line in Jason Roberson, Joe Pavelski, and Roope Hintz continues to be nearly impossible to stop and the Stars will really be a tough out if the rest of the offensive unit continues to support that line.

Jake Oettinger will look to get another start tonight as he's also been on fire lately. On the season, he is now sporting a .922 save percentage and allowing 2.28 goals against per game. Dallas will lean on Oettinger in this matchup tonight to try and propel them into that top three playoff position.

Why The Wild Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Minnesota Wild has fallen into a pretty bad run of play after the All-Star Break as they are now 3-7-0 in their last ten matchups, including a 5-4 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Friday. The team currently is missing some key players in Matt Dumba, Jordan Greenway, and now Mats Zuccarello, but the roster should still be able to put up better fights without those three. This bad effort of play has also come from the poor goaltending between the pipes.

It's unclear who will get the start in net tonight between Cam Talbot and Kaapo Kahkonen, but both have posted less than strong numbers lately. Talbot is repping a .907 save percentage and allowing 3.02 goals per game over his 33 games played, while Kahkonen has a .915 save percentage and allows 2.74 goals per game over his 22 games played. The Wild have fallen into a poor run of play and it will take a far better contest than we have seen of late in order to bounce back against a red hot Stars club tonight.

Final Star-Wild Prediction & Pick

With the results we've seen from the Stars lately and how Minnesota is clearly struggling through a number of concerns at the moment, there's decent value in the road dog for Dallas tonight. Surely this game could be a massive spot for the Wild to bounce back, but they have had less than stellar play from their goaltending lately, which is going to cost them in the end. Give me the road dog tonight in this potential standings shaking matchup.
