Game five will be played up in Canada as the Calgary Flames play host to the Dallas Stars in a now tied series. The Flames finally looked like the team that we know from the regular season as they were forced to tie up the series and bring it back home for game five. The Stars have been playing much better than people originally expected, but can they take over the series here tonight? It’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Stars-Flames prediction and pick.

Why The Stars Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Dallas Stars are still in this series because of one man in particular, and that's goaltender Jake Oettinger. I'll go ahead and say it right now, someone put a future bet in for this kid to win the Vezina within the next couple of years, he's easily become a top 5-6 goalie in the league. So far in the playoffs, Oettinger is posting an impressive .960 save percentage with 1.53 goals against per game. I don't think they're going to win this series, but the Stars have a huge future in front of them if they can play their cards right and get the pieces together for their offense. Defense wins championships, and they've been fantastic so far, but if the Stars can't mustard up some noteworthy scoring chances, this series is as good as over.

Why The Flames Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Calgary Flames finally found their stride in game four to tie the series, but now they want to take the lead before heading back to Dallas for game six. The Flames got exactly what they needed in game four and that was offensive production. The defense for these teams have been outstanding so far in this series but we all know the Flames can do better on the offensive side of things. As long as they can get their top line rolling effectively, they should have no problem scoring goals, for example, game four. Goaltender Jacob Markstrom has been playing pretty well, per usual, showing a .952 save percentage in this series so far as he'll get another start tonight at home.

Final Stars-Flames Prediction & Pick

The story of this series so far has been the goaltending. Both teams are killing it on defense and it's been very low scoring for the most part. However, the way that the Flames played in game four makes me think the Flames have found a groove and will keep piling it on as this series continues. With that said, of course, the odds are not in their favor, so I'm going to look at taking the Flames to win in regulation. I think they can do it, but I'm not entirely confident in them covering the puck line. You know what, for value's sake, I'm going to take the Flames puck line and just pray for an empty-net goal to cover the spread.

Final Stars-Flames Prediction and Pick: Flames -1.5 (+118)
