Vancouver Canucks veteran goaltender Braden Holtby could be on the move. According to The Athletic, NHL newcomers Seattle Kraken are eyeing the keeper as one of their first signings.

Holtby is expected to be unprotected in the expansion draft, but the Kraken has made contact with the Canucks to retain part of his salary in a deal. His cap hit next season is just over $4 million.

The Canucks have a clear #1 of the future in net with Thatcher Demko, leaving Holtby strictly as the backup. He would likely be one of the best netminders available to the Kraken in the expansion draft and brings a boatload of experience to the table.

The 31-year-old has a Stanley Cup under his belt with the Washington Capitals in 2018 and also won a Vezina Trophy in 2016. Holtby has also made 489 NHL starts and could potentially roll into Seattle and be the starter for the Kraken in their debut season.

Nothing is set in stone at this point but the Kraken is certainly preparing to have a strong roster next season as they look to make a similar impact in the league as the Las Vegas Golden Knights did a few years back. Braden Holtby could be one of the first building blocks.
