Will Ospreay successfully defended his IWGP United States Championship and immediately gained a new challenger. NJPW star Katsuyori Shibata made a shocking appearance, saving Orange Cassidy from a post-match beat-down.

Shibata came down to the ring to a thunderous ovation from the United Center crowd and aided Cassidy in fending off Ospreay and Aussie Open. The New Japan legend and Cassidy had a brief stare-down before Cassidy placed his sunglasses on Shibata.

The 42-year-old's appearance at Forbidden Door is his first appearance in wrestling since NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 16. He defeated Ren Narita at the Tokyo Dome.

Shibata has made sporadic appearances in wrestling since 2017 due to a brain injury. He collapsed backstage at NJPW Sakura Genisis 2017, and had to be rushed to the hospital.

Shibata underwent emergency surgery for a subdural hematoma. It was expected that Shibata's in-ring career was over due to the injury.

He wouldn't take any physicality in the ring until 2019 when he ran down to the ring to confront KENTA, who had just joined Bullet Club.

He would face Zack Sabre Jr. in a Grappling Rules match at G1 Climax 31. The bout ended in a time-limit draw. After the match, Shibata told the crowd that he felt good and his next match would be a proper wrestling match.

Shibata won the New Japan Cup in 2017. He is a one-time IWGP Tag Team Champion with Hirooki Goto, and a three-time NEVER Openweight champion.

The 42-year-old is also a mixed martial artist. He made his MMA debut in 2004, and most recently competed in MMA in 2011.
