Sports betting is a growing industry in the United States. Many states are pushing for its legalization, while others are still opposed to it. However, it was recently announced that sports betting will become legal in the state of Ohio on January 1st, 2023.

The legalization will allow fans to place bets on Fanduel (as well as other sportsbooks), in casinos, and on their own couch. The Ohio Gaming Commission will be responsible for regulating and overseeing the state's new gambling law. Casinos, bars, and everywhere else betting may take place will need to buy kiosks and receive gambling licenses.

The Phoenix Suns introduced betting at their arena last year and Ohio sports teams could add something similar to that down the road.

Ohio has been trending towards its legalization for quite some time now. Governor Mike DeWine signed a bill last year that permitted it in Ohio. Many people in the state were hoping that sports betting would become legal in Ohio earlier than the January 1st date. Fans wanted to be able to place bets for the entire NFL 2022-2023 season.

But now they will need to wait until the latter half of the NFL campaign to start placing bets on the Bengals and Browns. The Cavaliers will be in the middle of their season while the Guardians and Reds will be in the midst of the offseason. Nonetheless, sports fans are excited that the state is finally legalizing sports betting.

Ohio joins a number of states that have already legalized sports betting. Other states that are on the verge of legalization include Washington, South Dakota, North Carolina, and Maryland. Ohio officially announcing the legalization of sports betting could propel the aforementioned states to follow suit in the near future.
