Connor McDavid has been a scoring machine for the Edmonton Oilers this season. The former first-overall pick has been insane on the ice this season, leading the team in scoring and goals this year. His performance has been reminiscent of a certain franchise legend that has attained peak status in history so far.

After scoring a goal against the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night, Connor McDavid entered Wayne Gretzky territory with an insane feat. This game marked McDavid's second 15-game point streak this season, making him the first player since Gretzky to have multiple streaks like that in a single season. (via ESPN Stats & Info)

In true Gretzky fashion, that 1990 – 91 season referenced above (played in Edmonton as well) was the seventh time he did that in his career. Truly the greatest player to ever play hockey.

As for the Oilers, they're having a pretty good season to themselves. After being eliminated last season in the first round sweep to the Winnipeg Jets, the team is once again in position to get back to the playoffs for a shot a redemption. Behind a stellar season from long-time cornerstone McDavid, Edmonton is looking to make a serious push in the postseason.

The road to the playoffs isn't going to be easy, however. The Oilers hold a slim lead over the Kings in the Pacific division, but they face a tough slate of games to finish the year. Hopefully for McDavid, he gets possessed by the spirit of Gretzky again and carry the team to another playoff run.
