The Edmonton Oilers earned a 2-0 victory over the Los Angeles Kings in Game 7 on Saturday, and superstar Connor McDavid was naturally at the center of the action. McDavid tallied two points in the game, with the primary assist on the Oilers' first goal and then an insurance goal in the third period.

McDavid now leads the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs with 14 points after winning the Art Ross Trophy with 123 points in the regular season. Star teammate Leon Draisaitl gave the Oilers star his flowers after the clutch Game 7 victory.

Via ESPN's Greg Wyshynski:

“He's the best player in the world. He showed that in the last two games,” star teammate Leon Draisaitl said of McDavid after the game.

The Oilers star continued:

“It's not skill. … I mean, there's lots of skill obviously with him; that's a given. It's the will. You can see it in his eyes. You can feel it every shift that he's out there. He's determined. There was just no way that he, or us, were going to be denied. He led the way. He was amazing.”

After trailing this series 3-2, the Oilers are now in the second round for the first time since 2017, when they lost a seven-game heartbreaker to the Anaheim Ducks. McDavid might be the best player in the world, but he just hasn't had the help to make a deep playoff run.

Edmonton is hoping this season is finally different. Having a star teammate like Draisatl helps, but he has been there. The addition of Evander Kane has helped, with Kane scoring seven goals in the first round. Oilers goaltender Mike Smith was huge in Game 7, racking up 29 saves.

The Oilers will face the winner of Game 7 between the Dallas Stars and Calgary Flames.
