The Edmonton Oilers will attempt to even up the series as they face the Florida Panthers in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final on Monday at Amerant Bank Arena. We're here to share our Stanley Cup Final odds series and make an Oilers-Panthers Game 2 prediction and pick.

The Panthers defeated the Oilers 3-0 in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final to take the lead in this series. Now, the Cats hope to take a commanding 2-0 lead before heading to Canada.

The Panthers got the jump within five minutes as Carter Verhaghe flew through the blue line and received a beautiful backhand pass from Aleksander Barkov to put it into the net to put the Cats on the board. Later, Sergei Bobrovsky robbed Adam Henrique and Leon Draisaitl of a great opportunity on a breakaway to keep the Panthers up. Bobrovsky did it again, snagging a shot from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on a wide-open net on the penalty kill.

The second period came, and Evan Rodrigues came off a centering pass and found the back of the net to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead. Ultimately, nothing could get past Bobrovsky as he stopped all 32 shots to preserve the shutout while the Cats added an empty-net goal from Eutu Luostarinen to seal the deal. Bobrovsky became the fifth goalie and oldest goalie in history to have a shutout in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final.

Why The Oilers Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Oilers fired 32 shots at the net. Yet, none went in. Edmonton would have had a better advantage had they won more than 40 percent of the faceoffs. Likewise, they went just 0 for 3 on the powerplay.

But despite six shots, Connor McDavid could not get one in. Therefore, the best player in the hockey world will give it another go. The Oilers need McDavid to find a way to generate some scoring. Additionally, they need some of the other Oilers to do some good work. Draisaitl fired four shots, and none went in. Also, he won only 11 draws and lost 12, not being able to give his team an advantage on the faceoff.

Zach Hyman is the leading goal scorer in the Stanley Cup playoffs with 14. However, none of his three shots went in. Nugent-Hopkins had a great chance to tie the game in the first period. Yet, his shot found its way off the glove of Bobrovsky. Even defenseman Evan Bouchard had four shots, with none going in. Overall, none of the top weapons in this offense could get anything going, as Borbovsky was a stone wall.

The Oilers had only 35 hits and blocked just 15 shots. Goalie Stuart Skinner did not face many shots. However, two of the 17 shots went in, as he could not stop Verhaeghe or Rodrigues. Skinner will need to do a much better job of protecting shots in front of the net.

The Oilers will cover the spread if McDavid, Draisaitl, and friends can get some offense going and find a way to get some shots past Bobrovsky. Then, they need to do a better job of defending and not leaving Skinner out to dry.

Why The Panthers Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Panthers only fired 18 shots at the net, but they managed three goals. Winning 60 percent of the faceoffs gave them a huge advantage, and they overcame a lack of success in the powerplay.

One of the best things about the talented scorers on this team is how battle-tested they are. Ultimately, they have good depth and have found numerous ways to win. The first goal was a work of art, with the first line generating the opportunity. Later, the second line sprang into action with the second goal. The third line finished off the game with an empty-net goal. Significantly, Matthew Tkachuk did not score in the second goal but was on the ice. Even when he does not score, he finds ways to act as a great decoy, allowing teammates to spring free.

The Panthers leveled 63 hits. Furthermore, they blocked 21 shots. Bobrovsky did a masterful job of not letting Edmonton get anything past him. However, he will need more help from the defense to prevent another 30-shot game.

The Panthers will cover the spread if they again find ways to generate scoring chances. Then, they need Bobrovsky to have another elite game to fend off a dangerous Edmonton team.

Final Oilers-Panthers Game 2 Prediction & Pick

Bobrovsky had the night of his life. However, it rarely happens twice in a row. It was certainly a great start to the Conn Smythe Trophy consideration, as Bobrovsky was our top pick to win it. But he would need to do it again, probably making more saves. While we do believe the Panthers could snag the win, they are only 6-4 at home in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Additionally, the Oilers have rarely had two bad games. Expect the Oilers to cover the spread as Edmonton finds a way to bounce back.
