Since being moved to the New Orleans Pelicans prior to the start of the 2014-15 season, Omer Asik has struggled to fit in the team's system and has seen a steady decline in his playing time.

Once thought to be a compliment to Anthony Davis in their frontcourt, the Turkish international has failed to show consistency in scoring as well as being the rim protector they hoped for him to be.

This season, Asik is averaging career-lows in minutes per game and points. He has fallen off head coach Alvin Gentry‘s rotation and has seen Alexis Ajinca get more action than he does on the court. Many thought that his days in New Orleans are already numbered, and now rumors have surfaced that it might be true.

Asik has reportedly been made available in trade talks as the Pelicans are looking to move him for a player that better fits within their roster. It might be the best thing that could happen for the 30-year-old as he has not able to showcase his talent in New Orleans and a fresh start with a new team might just do the trick.

In his first few seasons in the NBA, the 7-foot center has shown glimpses of his potential as one of the more agile big men in the league. If he can find a team that will maximize his usage, Omer Asik can become the serviceable center many believed he could be when he joined the league back in 2008.

The Pelicans on the other hand will try to get a wingman who can score and relieve some of the offensive load on the shoulders of Davis and Jrue Holiday. If a move happens and the Pelicans receive what they want in return, it will be a win-win situation for both parties and they can all move on from their failed experiment.
