Michael Chu officially left Blizzard Entertainment last year but he's not letting Overwatch become the greatest work of his career. The former lead-writer of Blizzard's hit team shooter continues to do what he does best, make video games. A new “multiplayer character-action game” is apparently in development for the new 2K Games studio 31st Union. 2K steps into the realm of esports with its attempts at creating its own successful character team shooter.

WRITERS NEVER DIE

An eagle-eyed fan caught on to 2K's plans through a job listing at 31st Union. More specifically, the Senior Software Engineer position describes the studio's upcoming project as a “multiplatform character-action game.” The descriptor pretty much matches team hero shooters such as Overwatch or Paladins.

Michael Chu oftentimes shares his opinions on the craft of creating video games. It's clear to see that he's not done with making video games yet. He joined 31st Union in July 2020 and we now know what's on the horizon for the new studio. Chu had this to say about the game creator's role in the industry.

“Our mission is not only to tell diverse, representative stories, but to create systems that will enable us to authentically and accurately represent underrepresented groups from around the world, and perhaps most importantly, to foster an inclusive environment where these stories are told by a broad and diverse group of creators who speak with their own voices, from their own experiences.”

The studio made no official announcements about the upcoming title but the gears are very much turning at this point in time. It's only a matter of time before 31st union and 2K Games officially announces the project or cancels it. The ongoing global pandemic undoubtedly impacted the development of the new title. Nevertheless, it'll be refreshing to see a new Overwatch competitor enter the esports scene.
