The Green Bay Packers made a bigger splash than usual during free agency this offseason. By far their biggest name signing was tight end Jimmy Graham, who arrives after spending the past three years with the Seattle Seahawks.

Graham hasn’t spent all that much time with his new team yet, but he’s already impressed Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers a good deal with his skill set.

Per Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette:

“The guy is pretty damn talented,” Rodgers said referring to Graham. “He’s got some different elements we haven’t had around here in a while with his ability to read coverages very quickly. He catches everything with his hands. We’re pretty excited about him.”

Rodgers wasn’t too pleased with the Packers after their decision to release Jordy Nelson without turning to him for some input. But he should be feeling somewhat better about that move after seeing what Graham can do.

Apart from Rob Gronkowski, Graham has been easily the most productive and impactful tight end in the league for the past few years. While he didn’t have the greatest final season in Seattle last year, he still ended up with an impressive 10 touchdown catches.

The prospect of a dynamic weapon like Graham catching balls from Rodgers should be a scary proposition for opposing defenses. Graham is capable of providing the Rodgers with that reliable red zone target that he hasn’t had for the longest time. If those two can forge a strong understanding in their first season together, the Packers will be a tough team to stop.
