The Carolina Panthers have spent much of the offseason reshaping their roster on the defensive side of the ball. The front office has shifted part of that focus on retooling their secondary in hopes of building off the success of last season.

With that in mind, the Panthers had honed in bringing aboard former Washington Redskins veteran cornerback Bashaud Breeland. However, Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network is now reporting that the three-year, $24 million deal with Breeland has been voided due to him failing his physical.

Breeland is the second notable free agent whose deal has been voided due to a failed physical. Wide receiver Ryan Grant also had his deal nullified by the Baltimore Ravens.

The injury that has caused the contract to be voided is a non-football injury as he had reportedly suffered an infection after cutting his foot and is a few months away from being able to pass a physical to join any team. He had cut his foot during a trip to the Dominican Republic earlier this month and will require a skin graft to repair the injury that he originally suffered in fourth grade.

All of this now places Breeland back on the open market where he could be a highly sought-out player as one of the top available talents at his position with the likes of Richard Sherman, Malcolm Butler, and Trumaine Johnson all landing deals. In his first four years in the league with the Redskins, he has developed into a developed into a dependable option in the secondary that warrants a lucrative deal from another team.

However, this current situation involving his foot could either see teams commit less money to him in offers while also delaying when he can sign a deal with a team. This shouldn't have an impact on his ability on the field in any manner as it's a non-football related injury that will likely heal in the offseason well ahead of the 2018 season. Once Breeland's injury heals, he should receive plenty of interest around the league.
