Carolina Panthers star quarterback Cam Newton is alright after he was involved in a minor car accident in Atlanta on Thursday.
According to TMZ Sports, Newton was hit by a dump truck while driving his Ferrari F12 – a $300,000 sportscar – at around 4:00 pm.
Atlanta police confirmed the accident did indeed occur, but neither Newton nor the dump truck driver decided to fill out an actual police report. It remains unknown what was the cause of the collision or who the guilty party was.
This isn’t the first time Newton has been involved in a car accident. In 2014, he suffered back fractures after getting into a car crash in his pick-up truck. The accident left Newton’s truck landed on its side.
But despite suffering those two back fractures, the incredibly tough Newton ended up missing just one week as he returned to play the final two games of the season. Luckily for the Panthers, this most recent car accident is nowhere near as serious and appears to be just fine.
Newton was once again dinged up with a variety of injuries last season and spent the early part of the year recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. However, he still played all 16 games, throwing for 3,302 yards and 22 touchdowns as he led the Panthers back to the playoffs.
The Panthers’ hopes of returning to Super Bowl contention next season will once hinge on the health of their star quarterback, who should probably avoid getting into more potentially devastating car accidents after this most recent incident.
