Everything felt familiar for Cam Newton on Sunday night as he made his return with the Carolina Panthers. It wasn't just a simple reunion. The star quarterback made sure that it would be a very memorable one, leading the team to a 34-10 win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Newton, who was banished by the New England Patriots in the offseason, entered early in the first quarter. He replaced starting QB Colt McCoy, who quite interestingly, fumbled the ball in their very first possession, as if accidentally signaling Newton to take his spot.

The former MVP didn't disappoint, tallying two touchdowns on his first two plays. After the win, which improved the Panthers to 5-5, Newton struggled to find the words—quite the opposite from his performance on the field (via The Athletic).

“Man, I’m telling you, you can’t make up a lie this good.”

The 32-year-old Newton signed with the Panthers last Thursday and had to learn the team's tactics quickly. He was so ecstatic with his first two plays against the Cardinals, he got called for unsportsmanlike conduct for brashly celebrating. But, well, who can blame him?

“I’ll put it like this: This time last week I was eating a bowl of cereal. Ya feel me? I told coach (Matt) Rhule (the penalty) would never happen again, and it won’t. That one’s on me. But yet, I was eating cereal last week. So that just puts things into perspective.”

Newton was selected by the Panthers as the no. 1 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft and starred for the team until 2019. But after his rousing return, it feels like he never left.
