Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has found himself in the middle of a controversy after his questionable remarks toward a female reporter about route running.

With that in mind, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk is reporting that the Panthers are having internal discussions about the situation regarding how to handle it moving forward.

NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart said during a Thursday media briefing that “conversations” are happening within the Panthers organization.

This will likely lead to Carolina taking sort of action in response to help alleviate the tension surrounding the team. The NFL has the power to step in if they need be, but that may only happen if the league office doesn't believe it is being handled properly. The team already issued a statement saying that Newton and the reporter in question, Jourdan Rodrigue, discussed it and he showed “regret” for voicing those comments.

However, Rodrigue stated that things didn't improve after she spoke to the 28-year-old, with no apology issued.

This situation has already resulted in Newton losing his endorsement deal with the Yogurt company Dannon.

The Panthers could foreseeably address the matter once again prior to the team's Sunday tilt on the road against the Detroit Lions.
