The Carolina Panthers are signing OLB Luiji Vilain off the Minnesota Vikings' practice squad and adding him to their 53-man roster, according to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report.

Vilain was moved up to the Vikings' active roster for Monday night's game against the San Francisco 49ers and played in limited action, appearing for 14 special teams snaps.

Luiji Vilain's career

Vilain attended the University of Michigan from 2017-2020, only playing in his final two seasons. Over that span, he didn't have a major impact in his 12 games — recording 11 tackles with one sack and one forced fumble.

After 2020, he transferred to Wake Forest, where he led the team with nine sacks in 2021. Prior to that season, he had been selected as a third-round pick of the CFL's Toronto Argonauts but opted to remain with the Demon Deacons.

Vilain originally joined the Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and appeared in three games that season.

Panthers dealing with injuries

The Panthers are looking to fill some depth after dealing with injuries on the defensive side of the ball. Linebackers Shaq Thompson and Marquis Haynes Sr. are both on injured reserve, and linebacker Frankie Luvu is dealing with a nagging hip injury that nearly kept him out of Sunday's loss to the Miami Dolphins.

The 0-6 Panthers are desperate for anyone to make an impact, sitting in last place in the NFC South and the only NFL team without a win through the first seven weeks of the season.

In his four career NFL games, Vilain has recorded four tackles with no sacks.
