The Carolina Panthers received a nice boost from Cam Newton on Sunday as they outplayed the Arizona Cardinals for a big win. As the franchise prepares for the Washington Football Team, the franchise is hopeful to have Cam Newton ready for an expanded role.

According to Ian Rapoport, “The Panthers are doing everything they can to make sure Cam Newton is in position to start Sunday vs. (Washington Football Team).” Considering how good Newton looked with his limited opportunities, Carolina should be able to make this goal come to fruition.

Matt Rhule claims, “We'll give Cam most of the reps and get him up to speed as much as possible,” per Ian Rapoport. The Panthers have a full week to make it happen. It's up to Cam Newton's ability to learn and execute Rhule's playbook.

Newton played a small role on Sunday against the Cardinals. However, he was the first player in NFL history to record a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown on his first two plays in a game. Panthers fans have every reason to be excited right now, as Newton could be exactly what this team needs to get back on track.

It'll be interesting to see how quickly Newton adapts to Matt Rhule's playbook. He looked comfortable in his limited role, which bodes well for his chances. The Panthers need consistent quarterback play to remain relevant in the NFC playoff picture. Sam Darnold looked the part to begin the season, but now it's Cam Newton's turn to bring Carolina back to former glory, again.
