In the last few weeks, Carolina Panthers Pro Bowl tight end Greg Olsen has continued to make progress in his recovery from a fracture in his surgically-repaired right foot.

This has put him on the fast track toward being able to take the field in the near future. He was nearly able to do so in Week 5 against the New York Giants. With that in mind, head coach Ron Rivera voiced on Monday morning that there is a chance that Olsen will be able to play in Week 6. The Panthers will go on the road and face the Washington Redskins. Max Henson of Panthers.com spoke to Rivera, and he seemed optimistic.

This is quite encouraging news for Olsen given the amount of progress that he has made in his recovery from the injury. It will eventually require surgery once the season is finished, but he has shown enough that he can play through it while showing no effects of it hampering his ability on the field.

His availability for this week will simply come down to him being able to continue to stay on that same path that has been over the last several days. If he can put a few more practices under his belt this week beginning on Wednesday, it should set the table to him being able to play against the Redskins.

The return of Olsen should provide a significant boost to the offense as he has shown over the years that he is a highly reliable asset in the passing game for quarterback Cam Newton as one of his primary targets. This has led to him putting together some productive campaigns that saw him become the first tight end in NFL history to notch more than 1,000 receiving yards in three consecutive seasons. He has recorded more than 60 catches five straight years that have all come with the Panthers where he has been a primary feature in the passing game.
